Jargon
Jargon

Description

Jargon is a gamified language learning application, designed in collaboration with BCIT's ConnectHER hub. This 15-week project was intended to help immigrant tradespeople understand trade-specific terminology and work towards their Red Seal certification. Using a hybrid Agile/Waterfall methodology to accommodate our fixed deadline, I served as project manager while contributing to full stack development. Beyond database architecture and frontend styling/animations, I frequently troubleshot technical challenges that blocked teammates - completing the OCR extraction implementation, resolving styling bugs, building the flashcard generation feature, and improving document upload speeds.

Lessons Learned

Our database reached its storage limit minutes before the final presentation, causing a brief outage. While we resolved the issue in time, this taught me to monitor system resources closely and set up usage alerts. In future, I will definitely prepare backup demo environments ahead of important presentations.
