Money Monsters
Money Monsters

Description

Money Monsters is a financial literacy application designed to teach children money management skills through a task-and-reward system. This 4-week project allows parents to assign household chores with monetary rewards as pocket money. Children could then set savings goals, request items for parents to purchase and learn budgeting fundamentals through curated educational content. In addition to my role as full stack developer, I served as Scrum Master and managed team coordination through Jira. Using Node.js, Express, MongoDB, and EJS templating, my technical responsibilities included implementing the authentication system, building the family management functionality and handling frontend styling across the application.

Lessons Learned

Facing delays in design deliverables, I stepped outside my primary role to ensure our team maintained momentum toward our deadline. These challenges broadened my perspective on user experience and reinforced that adaptability and cross-functional skills are invaluable when unexpected blockers arise. While Agile methodologies focus on iterative responses, this experience demonstrated the value of T-shaped skills. Having deep expertise in development, while still maintaining enough breadth in design, allowed me to unblock the team when dependencies failed. Moving forward, I plan to continue building versatile skills that allow me to support project delivery from multiple angles.
